Australia changed its approved English test list in 2025

The Australian Department of Home Affairs changed the approved English tests for visa purposes from 7 August 2025. For tests after that date, IELTS Academic, IELTS General Training, PTE Academic, and other tests can be accepted from a secure test centre. This matters when an old screenshot meets a new visa page. For many students, the familiar choices are IELTS and PTE Academic. IELTS gives a band score across four skills. PTE 47 does not mean the Australian visa process became easy

Old English scores may still work, but the date window is not automatic

Home Affairs says results from approved tests taken on or before 6 August 2025 may still be used for visa purposes until 6 August 2028, inclusive, depending on the visa. For a test after 7 August 2025, check the validity period for your visa subclass.
